What are Eating Disorders?
Eating Disorders are treatable mental and physical illnesses that affect a person’s eating habits. Anyone from any background, sex, and age can develop an Eating Disorder. There are numerous different types of Eating Disorders, including the most well-known: Anorexia and Bulimia. Millions of people are affected by this illness on a daily.
Emotional Warning Signs
If you suspect a loved one may be developing an Eating Disorder, keep an eye out for the following emotional signs and changes in behavior:
If they begin to hyperfocus on body image, weight, food intake, and calorie intake
Change in eating habits around others may refuse to eat or will eat minimally
Skipping meals and never appearing to be hungry
Extreme mood swings and withdrawal from friends and social activity
Over Exercising
Over comparing body image to others
Physical Warning Signs
Some physical signs that someone may be experiencing an eating disorder include:
Noticeable/Drastic Weight Changes
Frequent Dizziness or Fainting
Dry Hair or Hair Loss
Yellow Skin
Feeling Cold Constantly
Period Irregularities/ Loss of Period
Brittle Nails
Dry Skin
Teeth decay, cavities, and more dental issues
Sleep Issues
Immune System Issues
Gastrointestinal Issues
Reminder
Remember to Never assume anyone has an Eating Disorder. Not every person with an Eating Disorder will display these signs if any.
